The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) political bureau confirmed on Wednesday that the post of president of the republic has always been resolved within the framework of consensus and harmony between the Kurdish forces, noting, however, that the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) "sabotaged" the consensus this time.

Regarding the formation of the central government under Adil Abdul Mahdi, the newly named prime minister, KDP leader Masoud Barzani stated, “We are carefully following the steps to form a new cabinet, and we will issue the appropriate decision in this regard at that time."

The statement added that the KDP would participate in exchanging views regarding the formation of the new government in order to assure that all Iraqis benefit according to their own “convictions and views” and their “real representatives”.
