The election of Barham Salih for the post of Iraq's president puts an end to the internal conflicts in the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), a member of the PUK Blesa Jabar Farman stated on Wednesday.
“Preparations are going to elect Salih as the secretary-general of the (PUK) as he will be the ideal leader to succeed Jalal Talabani,” she added, pointing out that all PUK leaders agree that he is capable to run the union.
Victory Alliance MP Yousef al-Kalabi has stated that Barham Salih, the PUK's candidate, has won the parliamentary vote Tuesday to become president of Iraq.
Salih took the presidential oath before the head of the Federal Court, Medhat Mahmoud.
Salih's win came following much speculation, as there had earlier been claims that he had withdrawn from the race.
