The media office of Barham Salih denied on Tuesday news claiming Salih has withdrew from the electoral contest, calling media outlets to ensure accuracy in conveying such news.
“Some Kurdish media claimed that Barham Salih withdrew his candidacy for the Iraqi president post, and this is totally untrue,” according to the statement of the media office.
The PUK’s presidential candidate, Barham Salih, and his accompanying delegation left the Parliament prior to Monday evening’s session to vote on the president, a source said.
Earlier, Salih conducted consultative rounds with the political blocs within the Parliament.
Meanwhile, Parliament Speaker Mohamed Halbusi postponed the Parliament session by half an hour due to lack of quorum.
The contest for president is deemed largely between Salih, supported by the PUK, and the rival KDP’s candidate, Fuad Hussein.
