Former Miss Iraq beauty queen Shimaa Qasim has streamed a video clip in which she said she had received “death threats” after the brutal killing of social media influencer and photo model Tara Faris.
Recently, Fares was voted as the sixth most popular Iraqi on social media, she had won beauty pageants in Baghdad with nearly three million followers on Instagram.
A few days earlier, Souad al-Ali, a civil society activist, was also shot dead in Basra.
“Me and Fares were not close in real life, but her murder broke my heart,” Qasim said. “We just want to live in peace,” she added, crying, as she announced leaving social media for a while.
Unknown assailants shot Tara Fares dead in Baghdad last week in a series of murders of prominent Iraqi women, including Basra activist Suad Al-Ali.
