The pro-Iran bloc, the Building Coalition, will back the official nominee of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Fuad Hussein, for the presidency post, an informed source in the coalition told The Baghdad Post on Sunday.

“Following the meeting held Sunday in Baghdad, the Building Coalition agreed to support Hussein for presidency,” the source said, pointing out that the coalition received a “positive” phone call from the KDP leader, Massoud Barzani.

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) said on Saturday that Barzani is sticking by his candidate for the presidency of the republic, Fuad Hussein, with the goal of bargaining for positions in the Kurdistan region, pointing out that the choice of president is linked to the provincial parliamentary elections..

Iraq's Council of Representatives summoned all presidential candidates for a special session, to vote on the president on Monday. The parliament asked all candidates who met the legal conditions on Sunday to attend the Monday's session.

According to a statement issued by the Parliament's media department, the session will be held at 8 am, where the president will be voted on.

The statement has named 24 candidates who met the legal conditions including, PUK's sole candidate Barham Salih, Serdar Abdullah, Abdul Latif Gamil Rashid, Omer Berzinji and KDP's candidate Fuad Hussein.
