Iraq stresses commitment to protecting foreign diplomatic missions

Jaafari: Thanks to IMIS, Iraqi forces achieved victories against ISIS
Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari
Iraq is committed to protecting and securing foreign diplomatic missions on its territories, said the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.

The remark was made commenting on Washington's decision to close its consulate in Basra and withdraw its staffers.

The foreign ministry is sorry for the US warning issued to its nationals against traveling to Iraq, the ministry's spokesperson Ahmed Mahjoub said.

The spokesperson added that the Iraqi government is determined to face any threats against diplomatic missions or any foreign visitor as part of Iraq’s security.

Washington announced on Friday the closure of its consulate in Basra because of violent acts taking place there.
