The Washington Post
referred to U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton's statement
regarding the U.S. troops in Syria, saying that such statements reflect a
change in the U.S. policy toward Syria.
The American newspaper said that Bolton's statement on Monday shows that U.S. President Donald Trump's administration has adopted a wider mission in Syria, which is not limited to fighting ISIS.
Bolton said Monday that the U.S. troops will remain in the region as long as Iranian forces "are outside Iranian borders."
Last April, Trump said during a press conference that he wants to bring
U.S. troops home from Syria.
"It's time. We were successful against ISIS. We'll be successful against anybody militarily, but sometimes it's time to come back home — and we're thinking about that very seriously."
Senior U.S. officials asserted that Trump has ordered military leaders to pull U.S. troops from the war-torn country as soon as possible.
