Anti-gov't group claims responsibility for attack on Iran military parade

An anti-government group, the Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahwaz, has claimed responsibility for the attack on the military parade.

An anti-government group, the Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahwaz, has claimed responsibility for Saturday’s terrorist attack on a military parade in Iran’s southwestern city of Ahvaz, a statement released by the group said.

“This action was part of our legitimate resistance, and no civilians were targeted in the attack,” the statement added.

Iran’s state television announced that the attack targeted a platform where officials gathered to attend a parade marking the start of the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988).

The terrorist group describes itself as “devoted to protecting the rights of Khuzestan province’s ethnic Arab minority.”

"Several gunmen began shooting from behind the stand during the parade. There are several killed and injured," a correspondent told state television following the attack.

According to Reuters, the attack killed around 24 and injured more than 60 people, half of them members of the Revolutionary Guards, according to state news agencies.
