The Kurdistan Democratic Party said that the decision to nominate Barham Salih for the
presidency post was not taken by the two major Kurdish powers, adding that the
KDP will nominate another candidate.
Member of the party Sherzad Qasem said in a press statement that settling on a nominee for the two main parties in Kurdistan, the KDP and the PUK (Patriotic Union of Kurdistan) requires holding new meetings before the vote to achieve consensus and agree on a new candidate.
Qasem said that agreements between the KDP and the PUK will be invalid in case the PUK insisted to nominate Salih.
