Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday called back its Ambassador to Tehran for “irresponsible” behavior days after he received widespread criticism over a footage of him yelling at expats at a mosque in the Iranian capital.

A video that was posted on social media on Tuesday, Ambassador Rajeh al-Mousavi appeared grabbing the microphone from a speaker to shout at a group of Iraqi expats following a question about the current hardships and dire situation that faces Iraq’s southern provinces.

By doing so, Mousavi upset many Iraqis and forced the foreign ministry to summon him back to Baghdad for his behavior.

Iraq’s foreign ministry’s spokesperson Ahmed Mahgoub said in a Thursday statement that the ministry regrets “the irresponsible conduct of the Iraqi ambassador to Tehran with Iraqi citizens.”

According to the statement, Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari immediately ordered the return of the ambassador to Baghdad.

They said that an investigation of the incident is underway, and that the necessary procedures will be taken.
