U.S. Vice President condemns Iran shelling on Kurdistan Region

Mike Pence
The U.S. Vice President Mike Pence had a phone call with Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government Nechirvan Barzani on Monday, to express his condemnation to Iran’s shelling on Kurdish territories.

“Spoke with Prime Minister Barzani of Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government earlier today & condemned Iran’s recent rocket attacks into the Kurdistan region,” Pence said in a tweet on his official Twitter account, describing the aggression as an effort to threaten and destabilize its closest neighbor.

The Iranian artillery fire has struck the mountainous region of Kurdistan’s Bradost area on September 6, causing no casualties.

Iran has shelled areas inside the Kurdistan Region on many occasions on the pretext of the presence of armed Kurdish groups on its border.

The Bradost area is in northern Erbil province, near the borders with Turkey and Iran.
