On Wednesday, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has selected its member Rizgar Ali as candidate for the position of Kirkuk governor instead of Rakan al-Jabouri, who has won a Parliamentary seat in the May 12 elections.
He added that the PUK will directly present Rizgar's credentials to the federal government.

Askari said that the union has the right to nominate a new governor after the landslide
victory achieved by the PUK in the recent local and parliamentary elections.
Rizgar Ali has served as head of Kirkuk provincial council for 6 years starting 2005, after that, he was appointed as a member of the PUK's Political Bureau in 2012
