Lionel Messi look poised to notch up his 31st career La Liga hat-trick as Barcelona ran riot in an 8-2 win over newly-promoted Huesca, Fox Sports reported.
But the legendary Argentine star put his own interests to the side in a wonderfully-selfless act that’s been lauded on social media.
Messi had already scored twice and provided two assists when Luis Suarez won a penalty in second half injury time.
Barcelona’s usual penalty taker Messi picked up the ball but then threw it to Suarez, who had been struggling for form until scoring his first goal of the season in the 39th minute.
Football fans took to Twitter to praise Messi for the act of generosity and leadership, questioning whether fellow megastars Cristiano Ronaldo or Neymar would put a teammate first in such a way.
Barcelona maintained their perfect start to the season and they and Real Madrid are the only two teams to have won their three opening league games.
