Iraqi security forces have dispersed protesters at Algeria street in central Basra province, eyewitnesses said Friday.
Earlier on Friday, angry demonstrators stormed the Basra Governorate building.
Iraqi security forces fired tear gas and live ammunition to disperse protesters.
A number of demonstrators including children have been suffocated.
Iraqi protesters have called for UN intervention to save the governorate from deteriorating situation, sources confirmed.
The protests erupted Thursday against the deterioration of services.
