Kurdish institute: Electoral commission is a failure

Kurdish Pay Institute for Education and Development said the electoral commission in Iraqi Kurdistan region is a failure and not independent.

In press statements, President of the institute Sorour Abdel Rahman explained that the commission lacks professionalism and is not ready to hold elections.

Abdel Rahman underlined that the reason that the commission is not independent is that political parties have chosen most of its members as candidates in the elections.

He underscored that the commission is funded by the Kurdish government, which makes it subject to the provincial government, adding that it does not has a budget allocated by the Parliament as it should, thus it is not subject to the supervision of parliament.
