Alak, Netherlands Ambassador discuss Basra water pollution crisis

Secretary-General of Iraq's Council of Ministers, Mahdi al-Alak met on Wednesday with Dutch Ambassador to Iraq, Matthijs Wolters to discuss Basra province's water shortage and pollution crisis.

Alak said that the water crisis witnessed in Basra tops the Iraqi government priorities during the current period, adding that the government is studying the offers made by specialized companies in order to solve the crisis.

During the meeting, Alak and Wolters discussed ways to strengthen joint cooperation between Baghdad and Amsterdam, especially in dams and reservoirs projects in order to secure a sustainable source of fresh water to Basra residents.

For his part, Wolters expressed the desire of Dutch companies to invest and implement a number of projects in Basra, especially in agriculture and water sectors.
