Mass arrests made after sit-in in Basra

Dozens of Basra protesters who set fire to th local council building at the district of al-Qarna have been arrested, according to reports.
The violence broke out after two protests died on Tuesday when the security forces violently broke up the protests staged in front of an oil facility in the district. Reports suggest one of the killed protesters died while in detention.
This comes as the Iraqi forces arrested 18 protesters from those who partook in the sit-in.
Lieutenant Mohammed Khalaf, a senior commander within Basra Operations, said the arrests were made in the district of Ezeddin Selim. He added this came after they partook in the sit-in.
According to sources, the Iraqi forces used teargas to disperse the protests, adding the raid was backed by the army's jets.
