Member of Victory Alliance, Nada Shaker Gawdat said on Saturday that current Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi is the favorite candidate to assume a second term in office.
Gawdat pointed out that Victory Alliance is close to all political blocs, confirming the existence of understandings between her alliance and Moqtada al-Sadr's Saairun Alliance and Fatah Alliance, which is led by Badr militia's leader Hadi al-Amiri.
She added that conditions set on the next government and its head apply to Haider al-Abadi, noting that he is the only candidate for Victory Alliance.
On Friday, Iraq's High Electoral Commission released the results of the manual recount of parliamentary elections votes.
It said that the results of the manual recount of votes matched the initial results from 13 of Iraq’s 18 provinces.
Parliament ordered the recount in June after widespread allegations of fraud cast doubt on the integrity of the ballot.
Sadr retained his lead in Iraq’s May parliamentary election, positioning him to play a central role in forming the country’s next government.
