Anbar province's governor, Mohamed al-Halbusi rejected on Friday the decision to cancel the votes of the province's displaced persons.
"The decision to cancel Anbar's displaced person votes is not correct. We have to reject the decision and appeal against it in accordance with the Iraqi law", Halbusi said in a statement.
Halbusi pointed out that canceling the voices of displaced persons in al-Qaim district is an unreasonable decision that contradicts the articles 14 and 20 of the Iraqi constitution.
Iraqi constitution article 14 states that "Iraqis are equal before the law without discrimination based on gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, origin, color, religion, sect, belief or opinion, or economic or social status."
"Iraqi citizens, men and women, shall have the right to participate in public affairs and to enjoy political rights including the right to vote, elect, and run for office", Iraq's constitution article 20 states.
