Saudi freezes trade with Canada, expels amb. over intervention

Saudi Arabia has said it is freezing all new trade with Canada and expelling its ambassador over its interference in the kingdom's domestic affairs, BBC reported.
A Saudi foreign ministry statement said it considered Canada's call last week for the release of detained civil society and women's rights activists a violation of Saudi sovereignty.

The Muslim World League (MWL) said in a statement on Monday that Saudi Arabia has the right to take a strict stance it finds appropriate towards Canada’s “unprecedented” intervention in the kingdom’s internal affairs.
The MWL said: “Stepping out of the legal framework and ethics of international affairs reflects in some ways the level of misjudgment that accompanies information that does not exceed the single-source analysis.”

Canada said it was seeking clarification on the Saudi statement.
