A number of Basra residents have started a sit-in in front of the headquarters of Russian company Lukoil in West Qurna field to demand providing job opportunities.
Member of the sit-in committee Safa Lazem said that that a number of demands have been raised by the protesters to the authorities, including providing job opportunities, improving basic services and establishing a hospital for cancer diseases.
A number of Iraqi cities and provinces, including Basra, Maysan, Dhi Qar, Babil, Diwaniyah, Wassit, Najaf, Muthanna and Karbala are witnessing mass demonstrations and sit-ins to protest against shortage of jobs, electricity, water and basic services.
Iraq High Commission for Human Rights announced that 14 people were killed during the protests and 742 were wounded, including 470 protesters and 275 security personnel.
