Iran arrests senior official over corruption allegations

 

Iranian authorities on Sunday arrested the assistant governor of the Central Bank for Foreign Currency Affairs Ahmed Arakji hours after being ousted from office.

Spokesman for the Iranian judiciary, Gholam Hossein Mohseni, said that several people were arrested, including the assistant governor of the Central Bank for foreign currency affairs.

The Central Bank of Iran yesterday sacked Ahmed Araghji, Director General of the Department of Foreign Exchange Bank, over corruption allegations as well as the weakness of the financial management.

The deposed Iranian official is the nephew of Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Abbas Araghji.
