Gargash says Qatar WC bid corruption similar to their political conduct

Anwar Gargash

The Sunday Times report about Qatar targeting rivals to win the 2022 World Cup bid is similar to the way they conduct politics, the UAE’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash said on Sunday, according to Arabiya News.
“They depend on fakes news, leaks, and payments to PR companies and mercenaries in what the newspaper (The Sunday Times) called “black operations”,” Gargash tweeted on his official account.
Gargash added that the newspaper’s report revealed documents proving Qatar’s corrupt actions that even Michael J. Garcia, a former United States attorney who had served as FIFA's chief ethics investigator, couldn’t.
Garcia had published a full investigation about the 2010 voting process, which ended with Qatar winning the bid for the 2022 World Cup.
“The Sunday Times sees that what’s new in its report is the documents that link these corrupt operations in the Qatari campaign to the relevant entity, which is what investigator Michael Garcia couldn’t reach. Unfortunately, we are not surprised by these antics and see it daily in Qatar’s management of its policies and affairs,” Gargash said.
