Iraq’s senior Shiite cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistan on Friday warned the Iraqi government against neglecting demands by protesters across the country,adding this will create dire consequences.
Speaking at the Friday sermon on behalf of al-Sistani, his Representative Abdel Mahdi al-Karbalai called for forming of a new government and appointing a strong and decisive PM who can meet the people’s demands.
The next prime minister in the new government must be strong and brave enough to combat corruption, he said.
He also called for removing the privileges given to some groups in the Iraqi parliament.
Sistani encouraged the incumbent government of Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi to respond urgently to protesters’ demands seeking better basic services and jobs.
