Director of Basra's Nashwa district, Waleed Matar denied that protesters have stormed Majnoon oil field.
Matar said he had contacted officials in the field who denied that the demonstrators stormed the field's gate.
He pointed out that protests witnessed in Basra are being held in a peaceful way.
On July 8, protests erupted in Basra against shortage of jobs, electricity, water and basic services.
According to security and medical sources, 14 Iraqis had been killed and wounded in the protests.
Basra oil officials have said five days of demonstrations, which took place near major oilfields, have not impacted crude production.
