Iraq's President Fuad Masum called on the local government in Basra province and the Federal Government to work hard in order to respond to the protesters demands.
In a statement, Masoum said that a number of areas in Basra have witnessed protests held by citizens mostly unemployed to demand providing job opportunities, as improving their economic conditions.
The president added that the protests witnessed storming of the headquarters of companies in Qurna oil field, pointing out that some buildings belonging to government and foreign oil companies have been destroyed.
Masum condemned any attack on foreign and Iraqi workers, calling on the security authorities to investigate the incident.
On July 8, protests erupted in Basra against shortage of jobs, electricity, water and basic services.
According to security and medical sources, 14 Iraqis had been killed and wounded in the protests.
