Sadr's office issues statement after suspending Saraya al-Salam

Moqtada al-Sadr
Member of Moqtada al-Sadr's office said on Wednesday that engaging in politics was behind suspending Saraya al-Salam militias in Basra.
Maged al-Fartousi said in a press statement that commander of the armed group in Basra Samir Mohammed Luaibi had summoned lawmakers for following up some issues.
"He overstepped his authorities by doing this," the Sadrist official said on Luaibi's meeting with the lawmakers.
"Sadr has called on his followers not to engage in politics," he noted.
Fartousi did not elaborate more on the reasons behind suspending the Sadrist militia, saying there are other reasons for the decision.
This comes as leader of the Sadrists Moqtada al-Sadr has issued a decision to suspend Saraya al-Salam militia from assuming duties in Basra for two years.
Its commander Samir Mohammed Luaibi was also expelled from the province after his meddling.
