Russia boosts chances for knockout round after 3-1 win over Egypt

Host nation Russia are on the verge of the second round of the 2018 World Cup after they beat Mohamed Salah's Egypt in St Petersburg, the Telegraph reported.
A 15-minute period at the start of the second half in which an Ahmed Fathy own goal was followed by strikes from Denis Cheryshev and Artem Dzyuba sent Russia into an unassailable three-goal lead.
Egypt rallied, with the returning Salah scoring a 73rd-minute penalty that gave them a glimmer of hope, but Russia held on to make it six points from their first two World Cup games on home soil.
