Head of the Iraqi Front for National Dialogue, Saleh al-Mutlaq called on Iraqi three presidencies to hold an extraordinary meeting to discuss water and energy crises witnessed in Iraq.
"Iraq is witnessing water and energy crises that threatens large parts of our lands in the Tigris River because of climate change as well as the operating of the new Turkish Ilisu Dam", Mutlaq said in a statement on Saturday.
Mutlaq called on the three presidencies to hold an urgent meeting with heads of political blocs to discuss water and energy crises and the search for urgent solutions.
He also demanded Iraq's Foreign Ministry to communicate with international organizations in order to convince Turkey to postpone operating Ilisu Dam until the end of the summer.
Mutlaq said that if all attempts to resolve the water and energy crises fail, the United Nations must intervene to reach solutions that aim to save Iraq from a humanitarian and environmental disaster.
