Sadr opposes Iranian influence in Iraq: spokesperson

Moqtada al-Sadr

Sadrist Movement leader Moqtada al-Sadr’s spokesperson, Salah al-Obaidy said on Sunday that Sadr opposes the existence of any foreign influence in Iraq, especially the Iranian influence.

Obeidi added that the commander of Iranian Quds militia, Qassem Soleimani will use his influence in Iraq in order to prevent the formation of a new national government, pointing out that Iraqis must take an action against Soleimani.

He said that Saairun Alliance, which is led by Sadr, seeks to form a government with a new program, stressing that this program will be discussed with all political blocs.

The spokesperson confirmed that Saairun will not cooperate with State of Law Coalition’s leader, Nuri al-Maliki as “he is responsible for many disasters that happened in Iraq.”

On May 12, Iraqi people made their way to the poll stations to cast their ballots in the country's first parliamentary elections since the defeat of ISIS terrorist group in December 2017.

Saairun Alliance won the most number of seats in the upcoming parliament.
