Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium will host the 2020 Champions League final, European football’s governing body Uefa has been confirmed.
The decision following Uefa' executive committee meeting in Kiev, the host city for this year’s match between Liverpool and Real Madrid.
Liverpool may see Thursday’s news as a good omen, as Istanbul was the site of their famous Champions League win in 2005.
The 76,000-capacity Ataturk Olympic Stadium hosted the thrilling showpiece where Liverpool came back from 3-0 down at half-time to draw 3-3 with AC Milan and win a penalty shoot-out.
The venue beat competition from Lisbon’s Estadio da Luz, where Real Madrid defeated Atletico Madrid 4-1 after extra-time in the 2014 final.
