Al-Karkh court has sentenced the son of Najaf Governor Luai al-Yasiri to life behind bars and a 30-million-Iraqi-dinar fine.
This sentence comes after Yasiri was accused of drug possession and trafficking.
Security forces apprehended Yasiri in January and confiscated over six kilograms of drugs and 800 narcotic pills. He was later accused of attempting to smuggle them into Baghdad governorate.
It is worth mentioning that Prime Minister Haider al Abadi had earlier extradited the former trade minister Abdul Falah al-Sudany from Lebanon after cooperating with the Interpol and Yasiri in his campaign against corruption ahead of parliamentary elections in which he is running and hoping to be elected for a second term as Iraq's prime minister.
