US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Friday that US President Donald Trump agreed to meet with North Korea's Kim Jong Un because Kim changed posture dramatically, showed desire to meet.
Talks between Trump and Kim will take some
weeks to arrange, to be the first face-to-face encounter between any leaders of
the two countries. It potentially marks a major breakthrough in easing tensions
over Pyongyang's nuclear weapons program.
"President Trump has said for some time that he was open to talks and he would willingly meet with Kim when conditions were right," Tillerson said during a visit to Djibouti. "And I think in the president's judgment that time has arrived now," he added.
"The decision was made by the president himself," Tillerson said.
