Iraqi police foil attempt to smuggle artifacts to Turkey

Nineveh police
Iraqi police have foiled an attempt to smuggle antiquities worth 13 million dollars to Turkey.

Acting on a tip, police troops arrested two persons with ancient manuscripts worth eight million dollars and a bust worth five million dollars in their possession, the Interior Ministry said Saturday.

The two persons admitted that they had agreed with someone in Turkey to receive the artifacts at the border area.

They also said that they are expecting a shipment of red mercury to arrive at the border area, as well as gold and diamond jewelry worth millions of dollars.
