Iraqi parliament on Monday turned down a request to increase the seats of the Yazidis in the elections law.

This came as lawmakers were voting on amends to the law in today's session.

Vian Dakhil, a Yazidi lawmaker, said the speaker of the parliament Selim al-Jabouri rejected a request to increase the Yazidi quota in the parliament.

She said the request was signed by 70 lawmakers.

"Although the speaker of the parliament's promises to put the motion to vote during today's session, and although I personally asked him on four occasions to give me the opportunity to speak of the motion, he reneged on his promises and denies me any opportunity to speak," she added.

Iraq's parliament approved on Monday holding the legislative elections on May 12.

The date of the elections was set in conformity with the plans of the Iraqi government and Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al Abadi who seeks to be re-elected for a new term.
