The boycott of budget reading sessions has led to parliament’s paralysis and clinical death, MP Abbad al-Bayati revealed Friday.
Bayati called on the parliament presidium to take the legal measures, stipulated in the rules of procedures to put an end to this phenomenon.
The National Iraqi Alliance (NIA) is the largest bloc in the parliament. Thus, it has to secure a quorum in the sessions allocated for the budget, which paves the way for passing it as it is linked to citizens’ lives and interests, he added.
The budget bill has not been passed yet although it was sent to the parliament in November.
According to parliamentary sources, the bill has never been read due to the conflict among MPs over the rights of oil-producing governorates, Kurdistan Region’s share of the budget and the reconstruction of recaptured districts.
