The registration of electoral coalitions will end Thursday (today), Riyadh al-Badran, head of the electoral department in the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), revealed Wednesday.
In a press statement, al-Badran called on political parties to head to the IHEC headquarters to submit their electoral coalition’s registration applications.
The number of applications has reached 27 as of Tuesday, he noted.
On January 2, it was reported that IHEC sent an official letter to the Iraqi parliament to hasten the approval of the parliamentary election date.
Earlier, it said it is continuing to register parties and political entities and grant them establishment permits so that they can take part in the upcoming elections.
Two hundred and four parties were registered as of December 26th, it added.
The parliamentary election is scheduled for May 12th.
