US-led coalition service member dies in non-combat incident

Service member with US-led coalition dies in non-combat incident
A service member with the US-led coalition fighting ISIS in Iraq and Syria died in a “non-combat-related incident,” The Hill newspaper quoted the coalition as saying.

The reports provide no additional information about the identity of the service member, the circumstances of the incident or in which specific country the service member died, saying that such information “will be released at the discretion of the pertinent national authorities.”

“The incident is under investigation,” the coalition adds.

The death is the first in 2018 for the coalition, which includes 70 countries and four organizations.

It adds to the 47 US service members supporting the coalition who have died since the start of the campaign, 13 of whom were killed in action.

ISIS has lost nearly all of the territory it once held in Iraq and Syria.

But the coalition continues to help local forces clear the last pockets of the terrorist group, as well as help stabilize the areas that have been taken back from the group.
