2018 budget included 4.8% deduction from employees’ salaries – MP

The Iraqi parliament

MP Haider al-Fawadi, member of the integrity committee in parliament, called Sunday on the government to close the door to corruption instead of deducting an amount of money from the salaries of employees and pensioners.

In a press statement, al-Fawadi announced that 2018 state budget included a 4.8% deduction from the gross salaries of employees and pensioners.

Al-Fawadi also called on the federal government to cancel these deductions in the 2018 state budget bill.

All the justifications, provided by the government, no longer exist after victory over ISIS was declared last month. This means that the funds, which have been allocated for supporting the military operations to eliminate ISIS, should not be deducted from employees’ salaries, he added.

On December 9, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared victory over the ISIS, announcing the end of more than three years of battles to regain control over nearly one-third of the country that had been under the terrorist group’s dominion.

The prime minister said the fight against the terrorists has cost Baghdad more than $100 billion.
