Peshmerga Ministry to reopen Daquq-Sinjar road

Peshmerga Ministry to reopen Daquq-Sinjar road
Peshmerga Ministry has decided to reopen Daquq-Sinjar road, Babakr Zebiary, a Peshmerga commander stationed at the west Tigris River, said on Saturday.

He added that the road will be reopened from Sinjar's Zummar district after two days.

Concerning the central government's position, he said that the Ministry does not know whether it will open the road.

This road and many other roads to Kurdistan Region have been closed since September after the Iraqi forces have controlled Kirkuk governorate.

Many NGOs as Global Yazidi Organization Yazda has called Baghdad and Erbil to reopen the roads as closing them force the displaced Yazidis to cross another long dangerous road.

This comes as the crisis in Kirkuk has escalated. Peshmerga forces have been fending off attacks launched by the Iraqi forces.

Tensions between the two sides over the future of Kurdistan have been high since the Kurds voted for independence in a September referendum.

The oil-rich Kirkuk Governorate has emerged as a flashpoint in the crisis as it is claimed by both sides.
