Saudi Arabia has decided to militarily support Baghdad by providing it with advanced weapons, armored vehicles and ammunition as part of the recent cooperation between the two countries, an Iraqi government official revealed Tuesday.
The official said the first cooperation of its kind at the military level between Baghdad and Riyadh supports the war on terrorism.
Thousands of military equipment and vehicles have been destroyed during the three-year war on ISIS.
That is why the government considers establishing plants for the production and maintenance of military equipment to cut spending on equipment being maintained by manufacturers in the US and other countries.
According to an official in Abadi’s government, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has recently given instructions to militarily support Iraq by providing it with advanced weaponry and equipment which the country needs in its war against ISIS.
Iraq has not received yet any weapons from Saudi Arabia, but it will soon, he added.
European and western countries have elicited pledges from Baghdad that military assistance provided to the Iraqi Army will not be used to commit further violations against civilians and will not be used by Iranian Militias in Iraq and Syria (IMIS).
