Khanaqin council calls for return of Peshmerga to disputed areas

Khanaqin city council in Diyala governorate called on Saturday for the return of Peshmerga forces to the disputed areas after a surge of violence after their retreat, Khanaqin city council chief Samir Mohamed Nour told The Baghdad Post on Saturday.

He added that the security of the disputed areas has severely declined, as violence and crimes has increased drastically after the retreat of Peshmerga forces and Asayish in the last month.

Nour asserted that their retreat has created a security vacuum in many areas, which criminals and gangs took advantage of.

Nour asserted that gangs' nightly raids and civilians abductions have became usual phenomenon.
