The recent rapprochement between me and Saudi Arabia has raised the ire of Iran, Sadrist Movement leader Muqtada al-Sadr said in an interview with al-Sharqiya TV on Monday.
Sadr noted that the Iraqi-Saudi relations serve the interests of the Iraqi people.
The Shia cleric also said that he supports enhancing relations with Arab countries, particularly Saudi Arabia.
Sadr described Riyadh as the “godfather” of Arab countries, adding that Saudi Arabia has proven its influence in its attempts to bring about peace in the region.
During the interview, Sadr stressed the importance of not issuing statements which is might fuel tensions and start a war.
Moreover, Sadr said he supports integrating the Iranian Militias in Iraq and Syria (IMIS) into the security establishment.
He stated that he rejects the employment of outlawed IMIS elements in government institutions.
In July, Sadr made a rare visit to Saudi Arabia, where he met the Saudi crown prince and other officials.
