Security forces have arrested two female suicide bombers before they detonate a police officer’s house in Haditha city on western Anbar, a security source revealed Tuesday.
The source said that the two female suicide bombers, who were apprehended while attempting to detonate the police officer’s house, are sisters.
The police officer is the head of Shabak militia, the first militia to be formed to fight ISIS in Anbar, the source noted.
In early 2014, ISIS launched a successful campaign to seize around 70% of Anbar Governorate.
Haditha is notable for being one of the few cities that remained under the control of Iraqi forces.
It is the only city in Anbar Governorate that has been able to block ISIS’ repeated attempts to control it.
The Iraqi forces have recently recaptured Rawa, the last town controlled by ISIS in western Anbar.
