Eight soldiers have been killed and injured when their vehicle was targeted by an explosive device in Kirkuk Governorate, a security source revealed Monday.
In a press statement, the source said that an explosive device, which was planted on the roadside of al-Riyadh neighborhood in western Kirkuk, went off.
Soldiers of the 20th Division, Brigade 60th in the Iraqi Army, have been on board of the vehicle that has been targeted by the explosive device, he noted.
Two soldiers have been killed while six others injured in the explosion, the source added.
Kirkuk is witnessing a state of insecurity following the offensive launched by the Iraqi forces, backed by the Iranian Militias in Iraq and Syria (IMIS), on Kirkuk and disputed areas on October 16.
The move has come in retaliation for an independence referendum held by the Kurdistan Region authorities in September.
