Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, met in Riyadh on Sunday evening with Special Envoy of the Russian President to Syria Alexander Lavrentiev, according to SPA.
During the meeting, they reviewed developments in the Syrian arena.
On November 11, on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Vietnam President Vladimir Putin and US leader Donald Trump agreed to support a political reconciliation in Syria while maintaining the existing two-nation communication channels used to fight ISIS.
Trump and Putin are satisfied with the “successful US-Russia” military efforts that have “dramatically accelerated” the terrorist group’s battlefield losses, according to a joint statement issued after the leaders met briefly on the sidelines of the summit. “There is no military solution to the conflict in Syria,” according to the statement.
“The ultimate political solution to the conflict must be forged through the Geneva process” under United Nations resolutions.
