Iraqi President Fuad Masum and VP Nuri al-Maliki stressed on the need to hold the upcoming legislative elections as scheduled, the Baghdad Post reported Saturday.
Masum met Saturday with Maliki, and discussed the political developments in the country and the region and ways to continue military victories achieved by Iraqi armed forces against ISIS terror group, a statement from Iraqi presidency read.
The two sides stressed, according to the statement, the need to strengthen national unity and call Baghdad and Erbil to start a dialogue to end the current crisis.
Masoum and Maliki stressed on the importance of enhancing confidence among all political parties to benefit the political process on the basis of understanding and constructive dialogue under the Constitution, the statement read.
Iraqi people are concerned Iran-allied terror militias, known as IMIS, would run for the upcoming elections.
