Kurdish MPs to attend next session to discuss 2018 general budget

Kurdish MPs to attend next session to discuss 2018 general budget
All Kurdish MPs will attend the next parliamentary session upon the request of Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri, Muhsin al-Sadoun, a member of Kurdistan Alliance, said on Saturday.

He added that All political blocs, including the Kurdish parties, will attend this session to discuss the 2018 general state budget and Kurdistan Region's share in it.

He continued that the Parliament will also vote on several drafts, including Parliamentary electoral regulations, oil, Supreme Court, and the Federal Council drafts.

Earlier, the Iraqi cabinet has approved 2018 general state budget and set the share of Kurdistan with 12%, noting that the Region's share was 17%.

This comes as the crisis in Kirkuk has escalated. Peshmerga forces have been fending off attacks launched by the Iraqi forces.

Tensions between the two sides over the future of Kurdistan have been high since the Kurds voted for independence in a September referendum.

The oil-rich Kirkuk Governorate has emerged as a flashpoint in the crisis as it is claimed by both sides.
