Iraq's central bank prohibits selling US dollar to Kurdistan

Iraq's central bank ordered all of its branches to not sell US dollars to Kurdistan region.

A document issued by the central bank said that according to Iraqi Parliament's 58 draft issued on 12/10/2017, the Iraqi central bank prohibited the selling of US dollar to Kurdistan.

The document stressed that any bank that doesn't comply with this order will be banned from selling any foreign currencies in the Iraqi central bank.

This comes as tensions are high between Baghdad-Erbil in the wake of the Kurdistan independence referendum and the incursion of the Iraqi forces and IMIS that followed afterwards against Kirkuk that led to the displacement of tens of thousands of Kurds and Sunni Muslims from the governorate.
