The Iraqi cabinet set on Wednesday the date for the upcoming parliamentary election on May 15, 2018.
In a statement, the cabinet said that the federal government would be responsible for providing a secure environment to hold the elections and help displaced persons return to their districts.
Electronic voting will be available. Political parties taking part in the elections are not supposed to have armed wings, it noted.
Last week, the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has set the date for the upcoming parliamentary election on May 12, 2018.
It was reported that this date was suggested to hold the fourth round of Iraqi parliamentary elections so that the IHEC completes the preparations prior to the election.
Iraq’s last parliamentary elections were held in 2014 and saw the ruling Shiite National Alliance form a coalition government with the Kurds and Sunnis.
